Young Growers Alliance (YGA)

The future of the fruit and vegetable industry

The Young Grower Alliance of Virginia is a support group for up-and-coming fruit and vegetable growers. Drawing upon Virginia's rich history and promising future in produce, the YGA consolidates industry information to present it in a manner that encourages and prepares young, beginning, or next generation growers for a career in horticulture.

April 30, 2016   Winchester’s Grand Feature Apple Blossom Parade

The YGA constructed a float to feature in the Apple Blossom parade that paid tribute to the old time apple industry.  The members met once a week for many weeks leading up to the event to construct the float.  At the parade the float placed third in the community participation, non-professionally built category.

 

March 3, 2016   Capitol Hill Day

On Thursday, March 3, 2016 members of the YGA and U.S. Apple spent the day on Capitol Hill visiting with members of Congress to discuss the issues facing the apple industry.  

November 14, 2015   An Apple A Day Keeps Hunger Away- The Valley’s XC Challenge

The first 5k for Woodbine Farm Market and the Young Growers Alliance of Virginia was held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 9 a.m. The event raised $1,500 to donate to the Society of St. Andrews. An unanimous doner then matched this amount making the donation $3,000.  The Society of St. Andrews helps to feed the hungry in our area by gleaning extra produce from the local farms and donate these items to area food banks.
